Fazendas de Café da Chapada

Coffee farm visits in Ibicoara, Chapada Diamantina, Bahia: meet local growers, join the harvest and taste specialty coffees in the mountains.

The coffee farms of the Chapada sit in the mountains of Ibicoara, in Bahia, and open their gates to anyone who wants to follow the bean from the field to the cup without skipping a step. The visit goes through the planted rows and the processing area and ends with a tasting of specialty coffees.

The hosts are the local growers themselves, who guide the conversation and explain the choices behind each stage. Depending on the time of year, you can take part in the harvest and feel with your own hands the difference between a ripe cherry and one that is not there yet.

Ibicoara is one of the six municipalities of Parque Nacional da Chapada Diamantina, along with Andaraí, Itaetê, Lençóis, Mucugê and Palmeiras. Being in the municipality is not the same as being inside the park: the park's rules, such as ICMBio's recommendation to hire a visitor guide because the trails are not signposted, apply to whatever lies within its boundaries.

The same trip usually takes in other spots around Ibicoara. Vivai's catalogue lists Cachoeira do Buracão, Cachoeira da Fumacinha por Baixo (via Ibicoara), Cachoeira Véu de Noiva, Cachoeira do Licuri and Cachoeira Rio Preto nearby.

There is an active experience in the Vivai catalogue that visits the coffee farms of the Chapada.
