Lagoa da Betânia

Lagoa da Betânia is a long lagoon of clear, turquoise-blue water, ringed by fine sand dunes inside Lençóis Maranhenses National Park.

What shapes the place is its layout: the lagoon runs close to the Rio Alegre and is separated from it by a single dune, so still water and running water sit side by side, one on each side of the sand.

Access is through Santo Amaro do Maranhão, a town in the Lençóis Maranhenses microregion and the immediate region of Barreirinhas. The same base serves other lagoons listed in our catalogue, such as Lagoa do Reflexo, Lagoa Andorinhas, Lagoas Emendadas and Lagoa da Rancharia.
