Cachoeira da Fumacinha (via Mucugê)

The upper approach to Cachoeira da Fumacinha, leaving from Mucugê, Bahia: 6 km on foot or by mountain bike across the Machobongo highlands.

This is Fumacinha seen from above, reached by a route that crosses the open highlands of Machobongo on foot or by mountain bike. It leaves from Mucugê, passes through Cascavel and Campo Alegre, and starts with a gradual climb.

The drive covers 45 km of paved road plus 11 km of dirt road. From where you leave the vehicle it is 6 km of walking access, with an average time of 2 hours and physical effort rated as advanced.

Mucugê is one of the six municipalities of Parque Nacional da Chapada Diamantina, along with Andaraí, Ibicoara, Itaetê, Lençóis and Palmeiras. Whatever lies inside the park boundaries follows the park's rules: there is no entrance fee, and ICMBio recommends hiring a visitor guide, since the trails are not signposted. Being in the municipality is not the same as being inside the park.
