Two stacked waterfalls on the Rio Mucugê, in the Serra do Sincorá, reached by a 3.5 km walk of light to moderate effort, in Mucugê, Bahia.
Cachoeira da Matinha is a pair of falls on the Rio Mucugê, one right above the other, on an open stretch of the Serra do Sincorá.
Getting there means 7 km by car and 3.5 km on foot, along a gentle trail. The outing takes about 2 hours and asks for light to moderate effort, which makes Matinha one of the easier walks around Mucugê.
Mucugê sits in the Seabra microregion and is one of the six municipalities that share the Chapada Diamantina National Park, together with Andaraí, Ibicoara, Itaetê, Lençóis and Palmeiras. Being in the municipality is not the same as being inside the park: the park rules apply to whatever lies within its boundaries, where ICMBio recommends hiring a visitor guide because the trails are not signposted.
The same municipality holds other attractions in the Vivai catalogue, such as Parque Municipal de Mucugê, Mar de Espanha and Cachoeira da Sibéria, Cachoeira do Cardoso, Cachoeira dos Funis and das Andorinhas with Cânion das Sete Quedas, Córrego das Pedras and Moça Loira, and Cachoeira da Fumacinha, this last one leaving from Mucugê.
There is an active experience in the Vivai catalogue that visits Cachoeira da Matinha.
