Cachoeira do Mosquito

Cachoeira do Mosquito

Cachoeira do Mosquito in Lençóis, Bahia: drive to the upper section, walk a short 1.5 km trail and reach a viewpoint accessible by wheelchair.

Cachoeira do Mosquito sits in Lençóis, in the Chapada Diamantina, and owes its name to the diamonds known as "mosquitos", linked to the old mining activity in the region.

Getting there mixes driving and walking. Around 40 km of road lead to the upper part of the waterfall, and from there a short 1.5 km trail takes about 20 minutes. The effort is rated light to moderate.

At the top there is a viewpoint accessible to wheelchair users, so the visit also works for those who do not walk the full trail. Entry is either by voucher bought in advance or by a fee paid on site.

Lençóis is one of the six municipalities of Parque Nacional da Chapada Diamantina, along with Andaraí, Ibicoara, Itaetê, Mucugê and Palmeiras. Being in the municipality is not the same as being inside the park: for anything within its boundaries, ICMBio recommends hiring a visitor guide, since the trails are not signposted.

The Vivai catalogue has an active experience that includes Cachoeira do Mosquito, and the same municipality holds other sites such as Ribeirão do Meio, Rio Mucugezinho and Poço do Diabo, Cachoeira do Sossego and Vale do Pati.
