Marimbus (via Lençóis)

Marimbus is the flooded plain of the Chapada Diamantina known as the semi-arid wetland, visited by canoe or kayak, 22 km from Lençóis.

Marimbus is a flooded area of still water, covered in aquatic plants and visited by birds, which earned it the nickname of the semi-arid wetland of the Chapada Diamantina.

The visit is made by canoe or kayak and suits all ages. Physical effort is light to moderate, and the average time on site is around 2h30.

Many visitors pair Marimbus with the Rio Roncador, a good spot for a swim.

By car it is 22 km to Lençóis and 6 km to Andaraí. Lençóis is one of the six municipalities of the Chapada Diamantina National Park, along with Andaraí, Ibicoara, Itaetê, Mucugê and Palmeiras. Being in one of them is not the same as being inside the park: for anything inside it, ICMBio recommends hiring a visitor guide, since the trails are not signposted.

Other places in the same municipality listed in the Vivai catalogue include Parque Municipal da Muritiba, Ribeirão do Meio, Rio Mucugezinho and Poço do Diabo, Complexo Arqueológico Serra das Paridas, Cachoeira do Mixila, Cachoeira do Sossego, Cachoeira do Mosquito and Vale do Pati.

There is an active experience in the Vivai catalogue that takes in Marimbus.
