Clay Wall

Clay Wall

Parede de Argila is a seaside clay cliff in Cairu, Bahia, where visitors spread the exposed mineral clay on their skin, a long-standing local habit.

Parede de Argila, the clay wall, is a natural cliff right by the sea, with mineral clay exposed along the face of the bank. Visitors usually scoop up a little of it and spread it on the skin, a simple custom that became a traditional stop along the way.

The spot is in the municipality of Cairu, in Bahia, within the Valença microregion. The clay bath happens right there at the water's edge, between the bank and the sea.

There is currently no active Vivai experience for Parede de Argila. In the same municipality, the catalogue does list Mirante da Gamboa, Banco de Areia da Gamboa, Praia do Encanto (Quinta Praia) and the natural pools of Moreré and Garapuá, among others.
