Poço do Gavião

Poço do Gavião

Poço do Gavião, in Vale do Capão, Palmeiras (BA): waterfalls, a long pool and a 6 km trail with views of the Morrão rock formation.

Poço do Gavião is a set of waterfalls with a long pool, from where you can see the Morrão and the native vegetation around it.

Getting there means about 1 km by car from Capão and another 6 km on foot. The walk takes around 2h30 on average and the effort is rated moderate to advanced, so sturdy shoes and water in the backpack make sense.

Along the trail you pass bromeliads and orchids typical of the region, with the Morrão in sight for much of the way.

Vale do Capão is a district of Palmeiras, one of the six municipalities that share the Chapada Diamantina National Park with Andaraí, Ibicoara, Itaetê, Lençóis and Mucugê. Being in the municipality is not the same as being inside the park, but for anything inside it ICMBio recommends hiring a local guide, since the trails are not signposted.
