Cachoeira da Roncadeira

Cachoeira da Roncadeira

Cachoeira da Roncadeira is an 80 m waterfall 30 km from Andaraí, in Bahia's Chapada Diamantina, reached by a 5 km walk along the riverbed.

Roncadeira is an 80 metre waterfall reached by walking along the riverbed. The pool at its base is where the hike ends and where you can get into the water.

The site lies 30 km from Andaraí, in the interior of Bahia. The walk in covers about 5 km, takes an average of 2 hours and is rated as advanced, so bring footwear that handles wet rock and plan on a full day out.

Andaraí is one of the six municipalities that share the Chapada Diamantina National Park, along with Ibicoara, Itaetê, Lençóis, Mucugê and Palmeiras. Being in the municipality is not the same as being inside the park, but for anything that is inside it, ICMBio recommends hiring a visitor guide, since the trails are not signposted. On a riverbed walk, that is advice worth weighing anyway.

Andaraí is also the way in to Pantanal Marimbus, the Piscinas do Rio Roncador, Gruta da Paixão and Gruta da Marota, as well as waterfalls such as Três Barras, Bom Jardim, Herculano, Invernada, Ramalho, Rosinha and Papiaca, and the Balneário Rio Paraguaçu.
