Cachoeira do Ramalho

Cachoeira do Ramalho

Cachoeira do Ramalho, in Andaraí, Bahia: a 90 m waterfall reached by a 6 km walk of moderate effort, near the Poço do Fervedor pool.

Cachoeira do Ramalho is a 90-metre waterfall, one of the tallest in Andaraí, in the Brazilian state of Bahia. The water drops down a single rock wall, and most people who reach the base pair the visit with the Poço do Fervedor, a pool nearby.

Access is on foot: around 6 km of walking, roughly 2 hours on average, with moderate physical effort. No trekking background is needed, but closed shoes and water are.

Andaraí is one of the six municipalities that share the Chapada Diamantina National Park, along with Ibicoara, Itaetê, Lençóis, Mucugê and Palmeiras. For anything inside the park boundaries, ICMBio recommends hiring a visitor guide, since the trails are not signposted. That advice travels well to a long, unmarked walk like this one.

The municipality is worth more than a single day. The Vivai catalogue also lists Pantanal Marimbus and Piscinas do Rio Roncador (both departing from Andaraí), Gruta da Paixão, Gruta da Marota and a set of waterfalls including Três Barras, Bom Jardim, Herculano, Invernada and Roncadeira.
