Garimpo da Mutuca

Garimpo da Mutuca

An old prospectors' trail in Piatã, Bahia, leading into the Mutuca valley, with natural pools to swim where gold was once mined.

Garimpo da Mutuca is a valley in Piatã, Bahia, reached by a trail opened more than 150 years ago by locals and gold prospectors. The name says what happened here: this was mining ground.

What is left of the old workings now shares the valley with its cadeirões, the natural pools where you can get into the water after the walk.

Getting there means 16 km by car and 11 km on foot, with physical effort rated as advanced. It is a full-day outing, better suited to those already used to long distances.

Piatã sits in the Seabra microregion. In the same municipality, the Vivai catalogue gathers other routes, such as Serra da Santana, Serra da Tromba, Trekking Morro do Navio and the Piatã to Catolés traverse.
