A circuit of waterfalls, pools and coloured sand halls minutes from downtown Lençóis, in the Chapada Diamantina: 4 km there and back.
Parque Municipal da Muritiba is a circuit of waterfalls, natural pools and halls of coloured sand that starts just minutes from the centre of Lençóis, in Bahia. The route takes in Serrano, Poço Halley, Cachoeirinha and Primavera in a single outing.
The full circuit covers 4 km there and back, takes an average of 3 to 4 hours and is rated light to moderate in physical effort. It is the kind of walk families tend to do together, with no special preparation needed.
Lençóis sits in the Seabra microregion and is one of the six municipalities of Parque Nacional da Chapada Diamantina, along with Andaraí, Ibicoara, Itaetê, Mucugê and Palmeiras. Being in the municipality is not the same as being inside the national park: for anything within its boundaries, ICMBio recommends hiring a visitor guide, since the trails are not signposted.
If you are based in Lençóis, the Vivai catalogue lists other attractions in the same municipality, including Ribeirão do Meio, Rio Mucugezinho and Poço do Diabo, Cachoeira do Mosquito, Cachoeira do Sossego, Cachoeira do Mixila, the Complexo Arqueológico Serra das Paridas, Marimbus and Vale do Pati.
There is an active experience in the Vivai catalogue that visits Parque Municipal da Muritiba.
