On the administrative map, Palmeiras sits in the Seabra microregion and the Seabra immediate region. What matters more for visitors is that it is one of the six municipalities that share the Parque Nacional da Chapada Diamantina, along with Andaraí, Ibicoara, Itaetê, Lençóis and Mucugê.

One distinction saves trouble when planning. Being in Palmeiras is not the same as being inside the park. For the sites that lie within the national park boundaries, there is no entrance fee, there is no mobile phone signal, and ICMBio recommends hiring a visitor guide, since the trails are not signposted. Outside those boundaries, each site has its own access conditions.
