Cachoeira do Mixila drops 80 m inside a canyon in Lençóis, Bahia. A 12 km trail, around 5 h, advanced effort, with camping nearby.
Cachoeira do Mixila is an 80 m waterfall set inside a canyon with green walls, in Lençóis, Bahia. Getting there takes work, and that shapes the whole visit: this is less a waterfall stop than a long walk.
The route covers about 10 km by car to the trailhead, plus 12 km on foot. Average time is 5 h and the effort is rated advanced, so it suits people used to distance and ready to spend a full day out.
There is camping near the waterfall, which makes it possible to stretch the trip and also reach Capivari and Poção. Sleeping there changes the rhythm: instead of racing the clock to return the same day, you can split the walk and enjoy more than one pool.
Lençóis is one of the six municipalities that share the Parque Nacional da Chapada Diamantina, along with Andaraí, Ibicoara, Itaetê, Mucugê and Palmeiras. For anything inside the park boundaries, ICMBio recommends hiring a visitor guide, since the trails are not signposted. On a route this long, that advice is worth following anyway.
