Rio de Contas is a town with a preserved colonial historic centre, set among the ranges of the Chapada Diamantina, in Bahia. On one side there is the old streetscape, on the other the way into the waterfalls and trails of the Serra das Almas.
The municipality sits in the Seabra microregion and the Brumado immediate region. It works as a base that brings together two things that rarely share an address: stone streets to walk slowly and running water a short distance away.
Nearby are places such as Cachoeira do Jiló and Poço Preto, Poço das Andorinhas, Rio de Águas Sujas and Poço do Melado, Cachoeira da Lavra Velha, the Estrada Real and Cachoeira do Fraga.
