A stone-paved road built in 1726 between Rio de Contas and Livramento, Bahia: 4.5 km on foot, the Raposo waterfall and the Rio Brumado gorge.
The Estrada Real is a stone-paved road built in 1726 to connect Rio de Contas to Livramento, in the years when gold drove the region. The stone surface is still there, and it is what you walk on today.
The walking stretch runs 4.5 km and takes about 3 hours, at a moderate level of effort. By car it is 2 km to Raposo Chalé, where the walking part begins.
Along the way you pass Cachoeira do Raposo, the Raposo waterfall, and the gorge of the Rio Brumado, two places worth stopping for.
The site is in the municipality of Rio de Contas, Bahia, in the Seabra microregion and the immediate region of Brumado. In the same municipality, the Vivai catalogue also lists Cachoeira do Jiló and Poço Preto, Poço das Andorinhas, Rio de Águas Sujas and Poço do Melado, Cachoeira da Lavra Velha and Cachoeira do Fraga.
