Parque Municipal de Mucugê

Parque Municipal de Mucugê

Parque Municipal de Mucugê in the Chapada Diamantina: the Sempre-Viva park, the Museu Vivo do Garimpo, Rio Cumbucas and a stretch of the Estrada Real.

Parque Municipal de Mucugê, also known as Parque Sempre-Viva, was created to protect the sempre-viva, the flower that gives the park its name. Blooms are on display there, including a bouquet from 1999 that is still intact.

The visit combines history and nature. Inside the area are the Museu Vivo do Garimpo (the living mining museum), a stretch of the Estrada Real, the Rio Tiburtino and the Rio Cumbucas, where you can swim.

Getting there is short: about 4 km by car from Mucugê and, once inside, about 2 km on foot to the Rio Tiburtino. The average visit runs around 20 minutes and the physical effort is light.

Mucugê is one of the six municipalities that share the Parque Nacional da Chapada Diamantina, along with Andaraí, Ibicoara, Itaetê, Lençóis and Palmeiras. Being in the municipality is not the same as being inside the national park: for anything within its boundaries, ICMBio recommends hiring a local guide, since the trails are not signposted.

There is no active experience in the Vivai catalogue for Parque Municipal de Mucugê yet, but the same municipality offers trips to Mar de Espanha and Cachoeira da Sibéria, Cachoeira do Cardoso, Cachoeira dos Funis, das Andorinhas and Cânion das Sete Quedas, Cachoeira da Matinha, Córrego das Pedras and Moça Loira, and Cachoeira da Fumacinha, reached via Mucugê.
