Comunidades quilombolas e sítio de arte rupestre

A drive through the quilombola villages of Barra da Estiva, Bahia: Camulengo, Ginete and Moitinha, with local home cooking and rock paintings.

The route links three quilombola villages in Barra da Estiva: Camulengo, Ginete and Moitinha. In each one you find the local cooking made by the people who live there, and in Camulengo there are rock paintings, the older layer of the trip, marks left on stone long before the present communities.

It is done by car, around 43 km, with an average of one hour to reach the site. Physical effort is light, so it works as a full day out with no preparation required, the walking limited to short stretches between the houses and the rock art site.

Barra da Estiva sits in the Seabra microregion and in the immediate region of Vitória da Conquista. In the same municipality the Vivai catalogue also lists Morro do Ouro, Cachoeira do Bom Jardim, Morro Santa Bárbara (also known as da Torre) and Nascente do Paraguaçu, if you want to build more than one day around here.

Visiting a community means walking into someone's home. Arrange the visit in advance, follow the pace of the people who live there and listen to what they tell you on arrival, especially near the paintings, which are never to be touched.
