Nascente do Paraguaçu

Nascente do Paraguaçu

In the Serra do Cocal, in Barra da Estiva, Bahia, springs on the Instituto Nascente do Paraguaçu farm come together to form the Paraguaçu river.

The Paraguaçu river begins in the Serra do Cocal. On the grounds of the Instituto Nascente do Paraguaçu (INP) farm, several springs surface from the ground and meet among small cascades until they become a single river.

The visit is an easy one. The physical effort is light, which makes it suitable for people who are not used to long hikes. From the town centre it is around 18 km by car, roughly 30 minutes on the road.

The site is in Barra da Estiva, a municipality in the Seabra microregion and the immediate region of Vitória da Conquista. Visitors often pair the springs with other places in the same municipality listed in the Vivai catalogue, such as Morro do Ouro, Cachoeira do Bom Jardim, Morro Santa Bárbara (also known as da Torre) and the quilombola communities with their rock art site.
