Cairu - Bahia
Cairu is an archipelago municipality on Bahia's southern coast, home to Morro de Sao Paulo on Ilha de Tinhare, Moreré, Garapuá and the Gamboa beaches.
Cairu is an archipelago municipality on the southern coast of Bahia, a set of islands where beaches, coconut groves and Atlantic Forest share the same view. It sits in the Valença microregion and immediate region, and it takes in some of the best known names along this stretch of coast.
The most familiar of them is Morro de São Paulo, a village on Ilha de Tinharé, about 60 km from Salvador in a straight line. Besides warm, clear water and natural pools, the village has a historic centre marked by the Fortaleza do Tapirandu and the Igreja Nossa Senhora da Luz.
The beaches at Morro de São Paulo are numbered and each one has its own pace. Primeira and Segunda hold the movement; Quarta and Quinta are the quiet end. Quinta Praia is also known as Praia do Encanto.
Beyond the village, the municipality gathers the natural pools of Moreré and Garapuá and the Gamboa side, with Praia do Tatiba, the sandbank, the clay wall, the lookout and the panoramic swing. Nine attractions in Cairu are mapped on Vivai, each with its own page.
